Please List TWO “Business or Life Lessons” – (Or One of Each) – That You Have Learned Along The Way That Has Significantly Contributed To Your Personal and / or Professional Development and Success ???

Business Lesson :

Businesses are built on “Trust” and Timely “Delivered” Promises.

I am passionate about helping people and making connections.

By “making connections” I don’t mean superficial networking, but rather meaningful linking between people and between ideas that can make a positive impact — which can range from sharing a vibrant smile or a jovial laugh to changing someone’s life through unconditional support, friendship, mentorship, or inspiration — that can ripple throughout eternity

Teaching and training — developing skills and confidence in others — inspires me to develop myself, to learn, to innovate, and to ultimately become to BETTER me.  I truly believes that each one of us should strive to be a teacher AND a student every single day of our lives.

Life Lesson :

I hear the term “empowerment” thrown around frequently. But what motivates me every day isn’t the drive to take control of my life; it’s the knowledge that I have almost no control over my life whatsoever.

Random acts of violence like the shooting in Toronto’s Greek Town and the van attack in North York Toronto, Canada in 2018 highlights this reality.  Some people find the thought of having little control over their lives terrifying.  I find it inspirational.

Recognizing the lack of control you have in your life could leave you feeling like you are a plastic bag being blown wherever the winds of fate may take you. However, you also have to recognize that you are not an inanimate object with zero control. You are a living, breathing being that is full of emotions and capable of making changes.

Edward Abbey wrote in his book, A Voice Crying in the Wilderness, that “Fear of death follows from the Fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

I believe this wholeheartedly. We think bad things only happen to other people. We take our loved ones for granted. We always think we have more time to make changes, to live, to love.

In reality, you cannot control the actions of other people or the “acts of God”. You cannot control when your life will end or the lives of the people you hold dear. However, you can control how you live each day. You can change your circumstances. You can change your behaviour. Most importantly, you can change your perspective, which means changing how you view and feel about the world and about yourself.

When you recognize how fragile and fleeting your “health, wealth, and happiness” can be, you start to see what really matters. You see the difference between what you want and what you need. You see every day with your loved ones as precious. You see ordeals as adventures. You stop trying to live “successfully” — focused on attaining, on reaching, on arriving — and instead you start trying to simply live “fully” in each and every moment along this beautiful journey called “Life”

Please List TWO “Business or Life Lessons” – (Or One of Each) – That You Have Learned Along The Way That Has Significantly Contributed To Your Personal and / or Professional Development and Success ???

Life Lesson :

One of the most important “Life” and Business lessons I’ve had to learn (the hard way) is to know your own value. The world will value you and your services to the extent that you value them. In your personal life, this is reflected in the way you allow others to treat you. Who do you surround yourself with ???  Do you allow room in your life for people who don’t treat you with kindness and respect ???  If so, it’s time to reflect on your self-worth and address your self-limiting behaviours and beliefs.

In your professional life, the easiest way to reinforce your value is by determining how much money your services / time are worth. This may sound impolite or taboo, but monetary value is an easy message for people to understand in a consumer driven society. If you give discounted rates, people will assume your services are worth less than they are. This can be a tempting trap for young professionals who are just beginning their career, or for those who really just want to help others through their line of work. There are many ways in which you can give back to your community and help others, but asking for less than you deserve in your line of work isn’t the way to do it because it gives mixed messages.

Unfortunately, I think it can be especially difficult for women to stand up for what they deserve because girls are often socialized to prioritize the needs of others above their own. So let me just leave you with this thought. You and your family’s needs are just as important as the needs of others. If your family is suffering because you’re allowing others to provide you with less than you deserve, there is something wrong with this picture. Let this thought give you the strength to say “No” when the world tries to give you less than you deserve.

Business Lesson :

The “Business” and Life lesson that I would like to share next is that your professional success is often proportionate to your personal success. My business grows whenever I invest time and effort into my own happiness and personal development. When you enhance your skills, your motivation, your beliefs, and your happiness, you attract better things into your life. You also attract more opportunities when you build professional relationships, and you’re more likely to build quality relationships when you are a happier and more well-rounded person.

If Only Frogs Could “Talk” … Ribbit – Ribbit !!!

Once Upon a Time there was a “Deaf Frog” named Charlie.  Charlie Loved to Spend Time with his Frog Friends as They Would Lay in the Sun, Swallow up Mosquitoes, Hang Out on Lily Pads, and Hop from Pond to Pond Enjoying Their Days.  One Fateful Day, as Charlie was Out Gallivanting with his Four Frog Friends, Named Rich, Ricardo, Richard, and Rick, Charlie Accidentally Fell Into a Hole that was 30 Feet Deep, that is the Equivalent of 1 / 10 th of a 300 foot Standard American Football Field.  Charlie Realized that He was in a Jam when he Looked Upward and Saw Just How High the Hole’s Opening Was.

Charlie Desperately Wanted to Get Out of that Hole so he began Jumping and Jumping and Jumping but Failed to Escape.  As He was Urgently Trying to Jump out of the Hole All of His Frog Friends Started Congregating Around the Hole’s Circular Rim and Started Yelling Downwards at Charlie Saying “Ha Ha You’re Stuck Down There, Ha Ha You’re Never Going to Make it Out of there Charlie !!!”  Charlie Looked Up and All He Could See were His Frog Friends Screaming at Him While Frantically Waving Their Short Little Arms and Tiny Little Hands so He Continued to Jump and Jump and Jump But Still No Luck.  As Charlie Sat at the Bottom of the Hole, to Re-Group and Conserve His Energy, His Frog Friends Continued to Scream and Yell “Ha Ha You’re Stuck in the Hole, Give Up Charlie !!!!  Ha Ha You’re Never Going To Make it Out of There !!!” Charlie Looked Upward Once Again and He Could See His Four Frog Friends Continuing to Scream and Yell at Him so He Decided to Start Jumping Once Again. This Time He was Jumping Higher than Ever Before, So He Continued to Jump and Jump and Jump Until he Jumped Out of That 30 Foot Deep Hole Soaring Over His Four Frog Friends Who Were Lining the Rim of the Hole’s Exit.

Once Charlie Escaped, His Frog Friends, Rich, Ricardo, Richard and Rick Hopped On Over to Where He Was and One of Them Asked Him “How Did You Ever Escape Out Of That 30 Foot Deep Hole ??? … We Were All Waving Our Hands and Loudly Chanting “Ha Ha You’re Stuck Down There, Ha Ha You’re Never Going to Make it Out, Ha Ha You’re Stuck in the Hole, Ha Ha Give Up Charlie !!! – Ha Ha Just Give Up Charlie !!!”

… How Did You Do It ???

Charlie, the lip reading master, Grinned and Slowly Replied “I couldn’t Hear what you guys were Yelling from the hole’s opening. From My Point Of View, It Looked Like You Were All Cheering Me On !!!”

Business Lesson :

I read this in a novel once and it really resonated with me and it has stayed with me ever since.  Before long, I had decided to “Live” this principle and include it into my “Life’s Code” and it is how I choose to treat my students and those within my Inner Circle of family and friends today.  This Learned Lesson crosses into “Both” Business and Life and it goes like this :

“Nothing is as it seems and there are always two sides to every situation. Do not judge, do not presume and do not assume. Instead, have the conversation(s) to “understand” why.”

Life Lesson :

Whenever I saw my students cutting corners on an assignment or a task I would share one of my favourite sayings with them – “If you cut corners in Phys Ed class, you’ll be cutting corners for the rest of your life”.

This was usually said after the 2 laps of the class “warm up” around the School’s Soccer Field.  A few students would cheatingly sprint “across” the field before I got out there so that way it would appear like they’ve already completed half a lap.  Others would literally round the corners, instead of run “around” the full field.  I never yelled at any offending students, instead, I wholeheartedly addressed the entire class and said – “If You Cut Corners In Phys. Ed Class, You Will Cut Corners For The Rest of Your Life” – hoping that they would “Hear” and “Remember” the “Message” and learn to live with a sense of Integrity.

I didn’t realize just how important those words were until students who had graduated from our school would get in touch with me years down the road and tell me just how true those words rang. Sometimes these weren’t even the kids who’d cut corners in my class. These young adults were able to identify that Committed, Specifically Intended, Detailed, Hard, and Smart Work Does Pay Off and that The Only Time Success Ever Comes “Before” Work Is In The Dictionary !!!

It’s Humbling to actually realize that my words had weight and that they were able to stand the test of time and stay with my previous students deep into their post “Secondary School” lives.

Although we may be set in our ways during the different stages of life, the only way to grow as a human being is to Embrace “Change”, Not Fear It – It’s Never Too Late to Change, especially if it’s For The “Better” !!!

Our Canadian Olympian, Andre De Grasse, 100 metres Bronze Medalist, 200 metres Silver Medalist, and 4 * 100 metre relay Bronze Medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janiero, literally stopped Eva in her tracks at the NACAC Track and Field Championships 2018 in Toronto, Canada and asked her for a picture … and … Viola !!!

10 “Timeless” …

10 Timeless Pieces Of Advice About Love & Relationships.

1) Don’t stay with someone who antagonizes you or belittles you.

2) If you feel lonely, you’re better off being alone.

3) Know when to walk away.

4) You can gauge a person’s love for you by how they treat you when they are upset with you.

5) Love is a verb, not a noun.

6) When a lightbulb goes out, you fix the lightbulb. You don’t get a new house.

7) Don’t settle for someone who has zero regard for your feelings or wants just because you’ve been together a long time.

8) Just because you love each other does not mean that you’re good together long-term.

9) No relationship is perfect and there will be conflict. What matters is the desire to solve the problem.

10) Always fight the problem, not the other person. If you keep this in mind when arguing, you’ll be able to actually resolve the issue than be mad at each other.

“WLS” Chapter # 10 : Life “Educates” …

Life “Educates”…

Molly Spinak, The “Newly Retired” Founder, Owner, and President of Toronto, Canada’s Quadrant Marketing, is a graduate of McGill University’s Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry, as well as, Its’ Masters of Business Administration Program in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In 1987, while faced with a growing family, and teaching MBA courses at York University, Molly reached that professional fork in the road and decided to go out on her own and created Quadrant Marketing, a media company, that serviced clients such as Kraft for 25 years, Procter & Gamble for 23 years, and Heinz for 14 years. If you ask her, she’ll tell you that the secret to Quadrant Marketing’s success was its’ strategic smarts, great creative, meticulous execution, on-time product delivery, and the ability to stay within an approved budget.  These 5 pillars, combined with their impeccable integrity, allowed Quadrant Marketing to successfully bridge the gap between the needs and the desired results of their clients for almost 30 years.

Please List TWO “Business or Life Lessons” – (Or One of Each) – That You Have Learned Along The Way That Has Significantly Contributed To Your Personal and / or Professional Development and Success ???

Life Lesson #1 :

IF THERE’S NO BLOOD INVOLVED, IT’S NOT THAT SERIOUS

In other words, don’t get all worked up and stressed out about “Things”, that at the time may seem really serious, because with the benefit of age, experience, perspective and more, you’ll realize that they weren’t worth your time and energy in the first place.

Truth is, most things and (sadly) people, aren’t worth your time or energy … the person who rudely interrupts you when you’re speaking … the person who cuts you off while driving … the person who publicly ignores and snubs you … or … the person who insults you in order to build themselves up are small and insignificant in the grand scheme of life.  Like I said before – “most things and (sadly) people WILL disappoint you, let you down, screw you, blah Blah BLAH  –  don’t let them count, don’t make them important, let their doings and ill deeds just slide right off of you or else these people or things will end up wasting and consuming your precious time, robbing you of your needed energy, deteriorating your physical and mental health, and drowning your pure happiness away if you let them.” So as they say, “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff !!!”

Life Lesson #2 – FOLLOW THE 3 A’S – Accept – Alter – Avoid

This is the answer to everything that frustrates you.

If a person / situation bothers you  –  either:

ACCEPT IT – (sometimes, that’s the best, easiest, and least stressful route).

ALTER IT – (if you can’t accept it).  Do your best to deal with others, their reactions, your reactions, their behaviours, and your behaviours. Talk with them many times about changing, go for counselling regarding them changing, write things down to vent, share, and get things off your chests to one another in the hope for positive change

AVOID it – If neither of the above works for YOU, and you can’t accept a behaviour, and you can’t get them to alter or change a behaviour then avoid the source of your unhappiness and just walk away from it and let them go. If there are too many of these disturbing characteristics and stress escalating situations get rid of the relationship. There are “toxic” boy / girlfriends, spouses / partners, family members, work peers / superiors / subordinates, and friends.  Free yourself from these situations and relationships and walk away knowing that you’ve honestly tried your hardest. When the time comes to go your separate ways let there be no need for a big show down or grand finale, slowly pull yourself away and limit your time and contact with them instead. Perhaps, they may even be totally oblivious to their ill behaviours and / or can’t, won’t, or don’t even want to change. If others are willing to put up with their nonsense, be thankful that they’re no longer your source of heartache or headache anymore.

Business Lesson – KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT – You can’t learn if your gums are flapping AND it’s not your business to share other people’s news.

This learned Life Lesson crosses over hugely into The Business World – “Listen Hard, Talk Little” – People like to hear the sound of their own voice. Why bother ??? – You already “know” everything that you are going to say anyways.  If you can keep your lips from flapping you just might learn something from “Listening” to and / or “Hearing” what others have to say.

… And …

… Last but least, If it’s “not” your story to tell, then don’t tell it. –  Loose lips, Sink ships.

The “Business Owners” Annual Check Up From the Neck Up !!!

A lot of Us are Control Freaks !!!

A lot of Us have the Need to be Right ALL the Time !!!

A lot of Us feel that Only “I” can get the Job done “Correctly !!!”

… This is the Perfect Mentally to Continue Working an “Extra” 20 – 40 hours per week on “Stuff” that is Painfully Uncomfortable and More Importantly Painfully Unproductive.

Hey You !!! … Ya You !!! … You Need to See, Read, Hear, and Remember this !!! … I know how you feel, I felt the Same Way Once … But … If I Chose to Stick with that Mentality my Personal and Professional Brilliance would have stayed Buried and Overshadowed by me Constantly Doing the Things that “HAD” to be Done … Yes, these things on your “To Do List” are Important, I totally agree … But … we only have 24 hours in a Day to Get Things Done, outside of Eating and Sleeping.  I’m just Asking You to Choose to Spend Your “Time” and “Efforts” on doing the Things that You Excel In, so that way You can consistently Bring in Returns for Your Business … Remember, a Business with no Human Traffic will eventually Become a BROKE Business.

We ALL have Greatness Within Us and it is Our Job to Shine Bright and Get the Most out of What We Excel in !!! … Continue to do what it is You’re Great at and Find Ways to Outsource and Automate your “Dreadfully” Time Consuming Tasks to Others that Excel at and Enjoy doing such Endeavours – it’s a Win-Win Situation for Everybody Involved !!! …  Remember to Keep Your Eyes on the Big Picture of Your Personal and Professional Goals … and … always “Write Them Down” so that way You can Slice them Into Smaller Calculated Chunks of Attainable Achievements while on route to the End Result.  Always Begin with the End in Mind, Always Put Yourselves in a Position to Succeed before Focusing on the possible Success, Stop Keeping Score on Who Does What … and … Last But Not Least, as Entrepreneurs, Business Owners, and Up & Coming Employees, … Please Realize that In the World of Business Nobody CARES about Your “Feelings”.

Yes, We could Spend Time Strengthening our Weaknesses but with Today’s Technology we have the Tools to Leverage Ourselves and Get More Done Collectively while we Continue to Exploit Our Strengths.  Constantly being Stuck Working on the Technical Aspects of Your Business Won’t Allow Your Eyes to Look Up and Chase the Vision that Lies Ahead of You … its “2018” folks, either you Become a Slave to Technology … or … You Find a Way to Get Technology to Work for You.

Please !, Please !!, Please !!! … Start Working “ON” Your Business … and … Avoid the Death Trap of Constantly Working “IN” it.

Examples of working “IN” your Business :

1) Employees have been Trained to Bring ALL Forms of “Crisis” to the Boss / Business Owner to Assess, Address, and Solve the Problem(s).  In this Scenario the Business Owner has become THE Crisis Manager who Ends Up Having to Put Out Business Fires All Day Long.  If Their “Troubleshooting” Day is Slow They End Up Sitting in the Office Sharpening Their “Crisis Fangs” just Waiting for Crisis to Appear.  The Business Owner here has Gladly Accepted to USE their Valuable Time Solving Other People’s (Staff) Problems.

2) Business Owners Find Themselves working MORE hours than their Staff.  They Find that They’re the First One to Arrive at the Office and the Last One to Leave, Which can Lead Them to Eventual Burn-Out

3) Business Owners Feel the NEED to Have their Hands and Nose in EVERY Part of Their Business.  They are Unwilling to Release the Reigns and Completely Trust Someone Else to Do the Task

4) Business Owners Refuse to Outsource / Delegate Duties and Tasks … and … Then They End Up Putting Themselves in a Position To Take Everything On (Sales, Marketing, Finances / Accounting (which is Time Consuming and ALWAYS FUN especially around TAX TIME), Business Administration & Registration, Program Co-ordinating, Product Demonstration, Business Communication, Separating Business Banking From Personal Banking, Website Building & Design) … I Know that There are Many of You out There that are Saying that You are Not in the Financial Position to Outsource or Delegate Business Tasks right Now because You’re a ONE Person Show.  I Totally Understand and, if that’s the Case, then Please find a way to “Automate” part of your Business Duties to Take Pressure Off of Yourselves.  I know that you are doing a Great Job of Juggling all of these balls (duties) up in the air … But … you Know Just as Well as I do, All it Takes is for One of Those Balls to Fall Out of Rhythm, Let Alone Fall, to Disrupt Your Flow and / or Put You In A Business Tail Spin.

For Example, Certain Business Owners Take it Upon Themselves to be in Charge of Finances AND Accounting on Top of EVERYTHING Else … How Many of You Have Not Filed Your Taxes, Let alone on Time, Because You Don’t Have ALL of Your Paperwork READY for Tax Time or CONSECUTIVE Tax Times … I Know What My Responses Were When Faced with this Dilemma, What’s Your Reply ??? … I don’t have Time Right NOW because I HAVE to Focus My “Time” and ‘Efforts” Elsewhere IN my Business or Else My Business will Crumble … So what’s Your Solution Then ??? … I’ll DO them Later when I Have MORE Time … or … Maybe You’ll Skip Filing your Income Tax as a Whole “JUST” For This Year(s), which will then Follow You INTO the Next Fiscal Year(s) … Once the Government WANTS their Tax Money they’re Coming to GET it and They DON’T Care If it Puts You in Financial Ruin Because You “Chose” to Use “Their” Money As Your “Own.”

Another Example, The Business Owner Chooses to Do the “Work” of a $ 10, 15, 20 Dollar /  Hour Employee Vs “Working” ON The Business as a Productive Business Owner Would (Which I will Share in a Workshop in the Near Future)

Business Lesson :

One of the Biggest Lessons that I have ever learned in Business was the importance of having the ability to urgently and confidently “Execute.”  I think I sat around thinking about how was I going to start the business long before it actually happened. I did this for years. Looking back, I wish that I had spent less time “thinking” and more time actually “doing.”  A lot of creative people are really great on the conceptual and ideation stages of a project but for some reason it’s the Execution Phase that is usually the most challenging.  Once I realized the importance of having the ability to overcome to “Execution” stage, I immediately incorporated this Personal Skill into my everyday Professional Business Practice.

Life Lesson :

In order to move forward, personally and professionally, I realized that I had to get over my fears.  You see, I am naturally an introvert. I had to learn to get out of my shell, put myself in front of peers, start talking about my thoughts, and begin converting my ideas into realities.

Consistent forward Action was the Key, I’ve learned that on the other side of “Fear” was nothing but “Liberating Bliss.”

Life Lesson :

Many years ago I was upset about the stress of my job and the need to miss important family time in order to get ahead. I realized that when I was old and gray the articles that I had published and the awards that I had won would not keep me company. But I knew I would always regret the missed opportunities to share special moments with my children. So I made a big career move and I never looked back.

Business Lesson :

Life is too short to simply do a job that one doesn’t enjoy. I may choose the more difficult tasks, but they are always ones that are the most fulfilling.

A Psychologist walked Around a Room while teaching Stress Management to an Audience. As she raised a Glass of Water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “Half Empty … or … Half Full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: ”How Heavy is this Glass of Water?”

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, “The absolute Weight doesn’t matter. How long You hold it Up Is what’s Important here.”

If You hold it for a Minute, it’s Not a Problem. If You hold it for an Hour, You’ll have an Ache in Your Arm. If You hold it for a Day, your Arm will Feel Numb and Paralyzed. In each case, the Weight of the Glass doesn’t Change, but the Longer You Hold it, the Heavier it Becomes.”

She continued, “The Stresses and Worries in Life are like that Glass of Water.”

“Think about them for a While and Nothing happens. Think about them a bit Longer and they Begin to Hurt. Think about them All Day Long, You’ll Feel Paralyzed … and … Incapable of Doing Anything.”

“It’s Important to Remember to Let Go of Your Stresses. As Early in the Evening as You can, rid Yourself of All Your Burdens. Don’t carry them through the Evening and into Your night. Remember to Put the Glass Down!”

“WLS” Chapter # 7 : Life’s a Sport …

Women, Leadership, and Success

Life’s A Sport …

Stephanie Rudnick, a graduate of The University of Toronto, is a mother, a writer, a motivational speaker, and the founding owner and co-director of Elite Camps, one of the largest basketball organizations of its kind in Canada, serving 4,000 athletes annually. Stephanie played basketball for the Women’s University of Toronto “Hall of Fame” Varsity Blues who placed “2nd” in all of Canada during the 1995 – 1996 season.  Furthermore, she has also had international playing experience representing Canada at the 1997 Maccabi Games in Israel. Stephanie’s passion for basketball is stronger than ever. Once a high-level player, she now helps athletes develop their on-court skills while ensuring that they, their parents, and their coaches all understand how the lessons learned on-court can prepare them for success in life. Stephanie lives in Ontario with her husband, David, and their three young sons, all of whom have started their basketball journey.

Chapter Title – “A Team Captain Earns Respect : Loyalty Doesn’t Just Happen, It’s Earned” …

Life is a Sport : Page 306 – 307 …

(She =‘s Coach) …

… “She (coach) told me that people don’t just start off giving you their loyalty and respect.  She said it had to be earned over time and they have to know that you really “care” about them.  She told me I needed to take an interest in each player on the team and find out more about them and show them I “care” about them, by calling them if they miss a practice to see if they are ok, or calling and checking up on them if they’re sick, or giving someone a reassuring comment or call after practice if I know they have had a tough one.”

“She (coach) said that most people want to feel a part of a team, and if they feel their captain “cares”  about them, not just because they are playing well but because they are a person, then they will come to respect you as a leader and follow you through any of the ups and downs of any game or practice.” …

… Who are you loyal too and why ???

… What are You doing to gain Loyalty ???

Chapter Title – “Making Excellence a Habit  :  A Lesson In Hard Work” …

Life is a Sport  :  Pages 71 – 72

(Owen =‘s Coach)

… “For example, how many of you like to run suicides ???”

Again, there were no hands in the air

“Of course you don’t” Owen (coach) said.  “No one does.  But we do them day in and day out because we all know you need them to be able to run up and down the floor with ease to be successful in this game.  You practice and practice so that when you play you’re giving it your very best”

“That’s true of basketball, and it’s true of anything else.  You need to make “striving for excellence” a habit so that when you are done playing this amazing sport, you’ll be able to attain excellence in whatever you want to do with your life.  And sometimes that means doing what you don’t necessarily want to do.”

… How true it is !!!

“We are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit” – Aristotle

Seeds, Sunshines, & Rainbows

Could you imagine if “Matthew from Galilee” … and … Philadelphia’s Favourite Son “Rocky Balboa” were in charge of setting up a Workshop, Seminar, or Conference ??? … Wondering what their Welcoming Remarks would sound like ??? … Perhaps it may sound a little like this :

Welcome Everybody !!! … Although our styles of speaking may be very different, it is our hope that you can take valuable and applicable information away with you from this weekend’s conference.  So without further a due let’s get this ball rolling and let’s get started … Matthew will be up first … and … then I’ll return at the end of the hour to come knock the ball out of the park.  So get your pens ready to write and / or your fingers ready to type, here comes your very first golden nugget everyone … Have a Great Day !!!

“Matthew” Speaks :

“A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. These seeds sprang up quickly because the soil was so shallow BUT when the sun came up the plants were scorched and they withered away because they had no root. Other seed fell amongst thorns, they too grew up but they were sadly strangled by the weeds, thorns, and  surrounding plants.  Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a successful crop.”

“When anyone hears the message and does not understand it, doubt appears and snatches away what was once sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the message and immediately receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they only last a short period of time. When trouble or persecution appears because of the message, they fall quickly away. The seed falling amongst the thorns, weeds, and strangling plants refers to someone who hears and understands the message, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choked those who were messaged, making them unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the message, understands the message, lives the message, and shares the message.  This is the one who produces a good crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

“Rocky” Speaks :

“Yo, Let me tell you something that you may already know. The world isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and it doesn’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, Me, or Nobody is going hit as hard as “Life”. But it isn’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and still keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you have to be willing to take the hits, and no pointing fingers saying that you aren’t where you want to be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that isn’t You !!! … You’re better than that !!! … But until you start Believing in Yourself, you aren’t going to have a Life.”

Now that you have heard the message which seed will you become ???

… Will you become the seed that hears this message and not understand it ???

… Will you become the seed that immediately receives this message joyfully, who then pushes it off to the side just as fast as you have received it???

… Will you become the seed that hears and tries to live this message but eventually gives up because of all the ridicule, distractions, hardships, excuses, and worries of this Earthly Life ???

… or

… Will you become the seed who hears and fully understands this message ??? … Will you become the seed who sees and seizes opportunities instead of obstacles ???  … Will you become the seed that Brings this Message to Life ??? … and … Will you become that Fruitful Seed who Shares and Duplicates the Message into Others ???

… Believe that You were Born to be Great and Live a Purposeful Life !!! … You are Smart, You are Special, You are Strong, and You have been given the Glorious Gift of Free Will … Choose Wisely.

… Lead on my Friends !!!

Life Lesson :

I find this Life Lesson to be more personal, but it also applies professionally as well.  It has taken me many years, maybe up to age 30, to realize that not everyone is going to like me, for whatever reason, and that I shouldn’t take that personally.  Instead, I should just accept it, or like the boys on my 14 year old son’s baseball team say – “eat it” – and just move on.  There’s nothing I can do to make people like me if they’ve already decided that they don’t, so I choose to carry on and do the best job that I can with whatever it is I’m doing – at work or as a mom.

Business Lesson :

I’ve learned that it’s important to just be “ME.”  You know me.  I’m not like most people.  I’m quiet, calm, speak slowly, and softly.  I always thought that it was a teaching liability and I wanted to be louder, bolder and more outgoing.  I thought that’s how teachers needed to be in order to keep a class under control.  However, I’ve learned that you don’t have to be loud to be an effective teacher and that a teacher can keep control of their class without being thunderous in speech.  In fact, my lead teacher this year specifically asked for me to be in her classroom because she needed my “zen” energy to complement her style of teaching.  The Principal and my Other Colleagues have commented that my personality and voice are very Montessori – soft and gentle.  So it’s okay to just be “ME.”  At age 49, I think I’ve finally found where I belong.

… I hope that helps

Burgers, Beers, and Trivia Nonsense

One Sunday September afternoon back in 2000 at the end of another Victorious Softball Season, my teammates, friends, and I went to a local pub after our last game together and ordered some Burgers, Wings, Nachos, Chilli Fries, 3 Mediterranean Salads, a round of “Diet Cokes”… and … played Trivia against one another on the Pub’s Television Screens. That afternoon we each threw $20 dollars into a pot and the person with the “Highest Score” at the end of the Trivia game won the Loot.  It added up pretty quickly because we had 11 competitive childhood friends squaring off against one another in the same game as Adults now.  Our biggest dilemma was to figure out who we were going to get to watch over the money filled pot while we all played.  It had to be someone who was willing to just sit along the bar’s rail, share time with their friends, drink their beer, eat their food, watch the scoreboard, watch the TV, wait for us to be done … and … not want to play. We found the most neutral person, named Angela (a girlfriend of one of the guys) who was willing to be the gatekeeper to the $ 220 dollars.

Before the 11 of us started playing the game we had to enter our names into the Game Console / TV so that everybody who was playing would know who had what score.  We had all entered our first names and were just about to start playing … then … all of a sudden Angela blurted out,  “You guys are going to use your real names ??? – C’mon, How boring !!! … Make up some “Game Names !!!” … There was a total of 16 people ready to play and 11 of them were us.  So the 11 of us ended up slowing down the game for everybody by deleting our initially entered real names and then re-entering our newly created “Game Names” for all to see.  Some “Game Names” were truly hilarious because of the “inside jokes” that were associated with them.  Once all 11 of us had finally posted up our “Game Names” we were ready to play … But … for some reason there seemed to be a hold up that was preventing the game from starting now.  You’re not going to believe this, but it was because the other 5 people, outside of our group who were sitting elsewhere in the bar, had decided to delete their original name entries so that they too could register their own “Game Names” into the Game Console and TV Scoreboard.  It was quite the giggle for all of us.  There were now 16 entertaining “Game Names” entered into the Games Scoreboard on the TV Screen for all to see.  We were ALL finally ready to play now … BUT … before I continue with the story here are some of the “Game Names” that I remember turning up on the TV Scoreboard  Screen.

The reason that I share this story with you is because it “indirectly” impacted my life significantly, as well as, prepared me for a Job Interview that I had scheduled for the next day which was a Monday.   To make a long story short, there were 2 managers from 2 different departments interviewing me simultaneously and I was feeling good about how the interview went … But … just as I was about to leave the interview room one of the managers asked me one last question … and … it went like this … “What 3 words best describes You ???” …  without hesitation I replied … “Faith in God” … They replied by saying “Ok, what are another 3 words that best describes You ??? … This time, without hesitation again, I replied … “Integrity, Empathy, Resilience” … The 2 interviewers looked at each other and then looked at me and then said “That will be all, Thank You” … The latter 3 words were sooooooooooooooo  freshly tattooed on my brain because of the previous night’s Nonsense Trivia Game at the Pub… and … They secretly served its purpose for me during the interview.

For those of you who are interested, I was eventually hired for the Job.  A job that allowed me to do everything that I was good at and enjoyed doing !!! … A job that has brought me cherished friendships that I still have today.  I had the pleasure of working 14 years with an Amazing, Awesome, Caring, Entertaining Staff, Special Populations such as Health & Wellness Clients and Enthusiasts, Senior Citizens, Teen Leadership Camps,  Activity / Sport Camps for Children, Youths, Teens… and … “The Forgotten” … I was Truly Blessed to have had the opportunity to work with all of them. Working there inspired me … and … shaped the rest of my Professional Career and Personal Life.  It’s March 2018 now and I still stand on those “6” words – (Faith in God; Integrity, Empathy, and Resilience) – to keep me Well Balanced … and … Heads and Shoulders above any appearing obstacles in order to keep my eyes glued on The Prize, The Goal, The Desire, and The Destination.

1) Integrity:

The Quality of being Honest and having Strong Moral Principles that you Refuse to Change.

Always Doing the Right and / or Honest thing, even when Nobody is Watching

2) Empathy:

The ability to share someone else’s feelings or experiences by imagining what it would “be” like to be in that person’s situation

Seeing, Understanding, and Feeling the World from Someone Else’s Point of View

3) Resilience:

The Quality of Being able to Return Quickly to a Previous Good Condition After Problems

The Capacity to Recover Quickly from Difficulties, Toughness

The ability to Fall Down 5 Times … and … Stand Back Up 6

These “6” words have become my “Life’s Code” … and … who knows,  they may even become the 6 cornerstones of my Earthly Downfall as well … But … For now, I will continue to hold these 6 words very close to my heart  … and … bring them with me Everywhere I “Work” … and … Everywhere I “GO”

Before I say see you later, I challenge all of you to take time out of your “busy” lives to sit down and write out “3 – 6” words that best describes You … and … to “Secretly” keep them with You always.  You never know they may come in handy when you least expect it, it’s funny how life unfolds.  Once you have figured out Your “3 – 6” words become Accountable to Your Words, Live Your Words, Become Your Words … and … Continue to Shine Bright !!!

Ps – “OnePackAbs” ended up winning  the Trivia Game’s $ 220 Jackpot !!! … A week later he had invited all of us to his home for one last get together to close out the Summer.  Upon arrival, it was obvious that he had spent his Trivia Game Winnings on stocking up his home with Food, Drinks, Beverages, and Snacks for that Summers Ending Barbeque … Now that’s Class, Unselfish Class  🙂

Business Lesson :

For “Both”, Life and Business, always Trust your Intuition. Your intuition, or “Gut” feeling on or about something, provides you understanding and judgment without any rational justification BUT it will most likely Never lead you in the Wrong Direction.  Your “True Self” only wants what’s Best for You and Your Intuition is the Invisible Connection to Your “Spirit” that Bridges the Gap between Thought and Achievement.

Intuition is the Inner Knowledge that We All Possess and we must Voluntarily “Choose” to Understand its’ Importance and Ideally Learn to “Trust”, Hear”, and “Listen” to it as well. But, oftentimes we don’t because our Intellect tends to get in the way.

Intuition is a Hunch, a Sixth Sense, or an Inner Voice that is Guiding you to where it is that You need to be.  Refuse to Tune Intuition Out, Learn to Intentionally Tap Into it Instead.

Life Lesson :

Your Thoughts and Words create your Reality.  Negative thoughts and Negative words Create and Attract negativity into your life. Positive thoughts and Positive words Create and Invite a Positive life, so be Mindful of what you Say and Think. If you say something is going to take “Forever” and cost “Millions” of dollars to accomplish, it will.  Conversely, if you think that Plans will “Easily” and “Effortlessly” occur then that’s what will Unfold.  The Law of Attraction is Powerful and it’s Important to realize that we are either Consciously or Unconsciously Manifesting Our Own Lives and That we are Directly in Charge of Writing Our Own Life’s Story.

Early on in my Professional Career, I learned the importance of “Public Speaking” at neighbourhood venues, functions, workshops, and conferences on Chiropractic Care and Injury Rehabilitation in an effort to build up my patient base.  Truth was, I was terribly nervous at first BUT I forced myself to do it “regularly” until I got over the fear of Public Speaking.  Initially, it was torture for me but in the end it all worked out.  I now have a thriving Private Chiropractic & Injury Rehabilitation Practice … And … I can also “Public Speak” comfortably in front of a crowd of 1000 people or more.

Life Lesson :

Here’s A Life Lesson that I learned very early on  –  Don’t feel like you have to know all the answers  –  Don’t worry about saving face in front of your friends, peers, patients, and other healthcare professionals.  If you don’t understand something don’t be afraid to investigate and / or ask questions from qualified people.  No one expects you to have all of the answers, especially when you’re fresh out of school, so take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way to pick someone’s brain … and … comfortably learn from others !!!

“Torn” – Inner Struggles

A wise Grandfather was teaching his Grandchild about life …

“A fight is going on inside me” he said to the child.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.”

“One is named Evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, rage, false pride, selfishness, superiority, jealousy, meanness, self-doubt, lies, and ego.”

“The other is named Good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, respectfulness, kindness, empathy, generosity, truth, thoughtfulness, nice, patience, compassion, integrity, selflessness, pleasant, and faith.”

“This same fight is going on inside you … and … inside every other person, too.”

The Grandchild thought about it for a minute and then asked their Grandfather …

“Which Wolf Will Win?”

The wise Grandfather simply replied …

“The one that you feed.”

… As an Adult, the moral of this story is quite clear and concise.  You have the choice to feed, nurture, become and share Evil … or … You have the choice to feed, nurture, and grow the Goodness inside of you to share with everyone. The “Wolf” or the “Version of Yourself” that you decide to “starve” and “give no attention to” will eventually die out.

… Unless you live in a cave away from ALL civilization, there’s a chance that you will become a “Role Model” to somebody whether you like it or not. Out of silent or expressed Admiration somebody may look up to you for guidance and direction and when that time comes it will be up to you to teach him, her, or them by example on how to “identify” and “select” the traits of Good over Evil … Since you have already been at this intersection of decision before, behave and teach appropriately.  Your emulators will eventually grow up and free themselves from their parents and begin to come up with their own thoughts, interpretations, behaviors, conclusions, and actions.

… Any loving and caring Leader, Mentor, Friend, Big Brother, Big Sister, Godmother, Godfather, Grandparent, Mom, Dad, Cool Aunt, and / or Cool Uncle, “chooses” to go out on a limb putting themselves in a position of vulnerability knowing full well that there’s a possibility that they may get physically or emotionally hurt … But … the rewards for those that they serve always outweigh their own risks and / or failures. Being a Visionary, Mentor, or Loving Family Leader takes Courage, Discipline, and Determination. While a Great Leader can Bring Great Physical and / or Emotional Success, it also comes at a Cost of Being Judged, Ridiculed, and Overwhelmed. Leaders and Mentors continue to best provide those that they serve with the Proper Intelligence, Instruction, Information, Readiness, Expertise, and Skills to Help Them Make Well Informed Decisions when they eventually get to Life’s Many Forks in the Road.
