A wise Grandfather was teaching his Grandchild about life …

“A fight is going on inside me” he said to the child.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.”

“One is named Evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, rage, false pride, selfishness, superiority, jealousy, meanness, self-doubt, lies, and ego.”

“The other is named Good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, respectfulness, kindness, empathy, generosity, truth, thoughtfulness, nice, patience, compassion, integrity, selflessness, pleasant, and faith.”

“This same fight is going on inside you … and … inside every other person, too.”

The Grandchild thought about it for a minute and then asked their Grandfather …

“Which Wolf Will Win?”

The wise Grandfather simply replied …

“The one that you feed.”

… As an Adult, the moral of this story is quite clear and concise.  You have the choice to feed, nurture, become and share Evil … or … You have the choice to feed, nurture, and grow the Goodness inside of you to share with everyone. The “Wolf” or the “Version of Yourself” that you decide to “starve” and “give no attention to” will eventually die out.

… Unless you live in a cave away from ALL civilization, there’s a chance that you will become a “Role Model” to somebody whether you like it or not. Out of silent or expressed Admiration somebody may look up to you for guidance and direction and when that time comes it will be up to you to teach him, her, or them by example on how to “identify” and “select” the traits of Good over Evil … Since you have already been at this intersection of decision before, behave and teach appropriately.  Your emulators will eventually grow up and free themselves from their parents and begin to come up with their own thoughts, interpretations, behaviors, conclusions, and actions.

… Any loving and caring Leader, Mentor, Friend, Big Brother, Big Sister, Godmother, Godfather, Grandparent, Mom, Dad, Cool Aunt, and / or Cool Uncle, “chooses” to go out on a limb putting themselves in a position of vulnerability knowing full well that there’s a possibility that they may get physically or emotionally hurt … But … the rewards for those that they serve always outweigh their own risks and / or failures. Being a Visionary, Mentor, or Loving Family Leader takes Courage, Discipline, and Determination. While a Great Leader can Bring Great Physical and / or Emotional Success, it also comes at a Cost of Being Judged, Ridiculed, and Overwhelmed. Leaders and Mentors continue to best provide those that they serve with the Proper Intelligence, Instruction, Information, Readiness, Expertise, and Skills to Help Them Make Well Informed Decisions when they eventually get to Life’s Many Forks in the Road.
