Life “Educates”…

Molly Spinak, The “Newly Retired” Founder, Owner, and President of Toronto, Canada’s Quadrant Marketing, is a graduate of McGill University’s Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry, as well as, Its’ Masters of Business Administration Program in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. In 1987, while faced with a growing family, and teaching MBA courses at York University, Molly reached that professional fork in the road and decided to go out on her own and created Quadrant Marketing, a media company, that serviced clients such as Kraft for 25 years, Procter & Gamble for 23 years, and Heinz for 14 years. If you ask her, she’ll tell you that the secret to Quadrant Marketing’s success was its’ strategic smarts, great creative, meticulous execution, on-time product delivery, and the ability to stay within an approved budget.  These 5 pillars, combined with their impeccable integrity, allowed Quadrant Marketing to successfully bridge the gap between the needs and the desired results of their clients for almost 30 years.

Please List TWO “Business or Life Lessons” – (Or One of Each) – That You Have Learned Along The Way That Has Significantly Contributed To Your Personal and / or Professional Development and Success ???

Life Lesson #1 :

IF THERE’S NO BLOOD INVOLVED, IT’S NOT THAT SERIOUS

In other words, don’t get all worked up and stressed out about “Things”, that at the time may seem really serious, because with the benefit of age, experience, perspective and more, you’ll realize that they weren’t worth your time and energy in the first place.

Truth is, most things and (sadly) people, aren’t worth your time or energy … the person who rudely interrupts you when you’re speaking … the person who cuts you off while driving … the person who publicly ignores and snubs you … or … the person who insults you in order to build themselves up are small and insignificant in the grand scheme of life.  Like I said before – “most things and (sadly) people WILL disappoint you, let you down, screw you, blah Blah BLAH  –  don’t let them count, don’t make them important, let their doings and ill deeds just slide right off of you or else these people or things will end up wasting and consuming your precious time, robbing you of your needed energy, deteriorating your physical and mental health, and drowning your pure happiness away if you let them.” So as they say, “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff !!!”

Life Lesson #2 – FOLLOW THE 3 A’S – Accept – Alter – Avoid

This is the answer to everything that frustrates you.

If a person / situation bothers you  –  either:

ACCEPT IT – (sometimes, that’s the best, easiest, and least stressful route).

ALTER IT – (if you can’t accept it).  Do your best to deal with others, their reactions, your reactions, their behaviours, and your behaviours. Talk with them many times about changing, go for counselling regarding them changing, write things down to vent, share, and get things off your chests to one another in the hope for positive change

AVOID it – If neither of the above works for YOU, and you can’t accept a behaviour, and you can’t get them to alter or change a behaviour then avoid the source of your unhappiness and just walk away from it and let them go. If there are too many of these disturbing characteristics and stress escalating situations get rid of the relationship. There are “toxic” boy / girlfriends, spouses / partners, family members, work peers / superiors / subordinates, and friends.  Free yourself from these situations and relationships and walk away knowing that you’ve honestly tried your hardest. When the time comes to go your separate ways let there be no need for a big show down or grand finale, slowly pull yourself away and limit your time and contact with them instead. Perhaps, they may even be totally oblivious to their ill behaviours and / or can’t, won’t, or don’t even want to change. If others are willing to put up with their nonsense, be thankful that they’re no longer your source of heartache or headache anymore.

Business Lesson – KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT – You can’t learn if your gums are flapping AND it’s not your business to share other people’s news.

This learned Life Lesson crosses over hugely into The Business World – “Listen Hard, Talk Little” – People like to hear the sound of their own voice. Why bother ??? – You already “know” everything that you are going to say anyways.  If you can keep your lips from flapping you just might learn something from “Listening” to and / or “Hearing” what others have to say.

… And …

… Last but least, If it’s “not” your story to tell, then don’t tell it. –  Loose lips, Sink ships.
