Hellooooooo Everybody !!! … As you know, I was diagnosed with cancer in June 2016 and immediately hospitalized for supervision, evaluation, and chemotherapy treatments for the remainder of the year. My January 1st – December 31st, “2017” wasn’t any easier, it was filled with Tumour Removal Surgeries, Hospital Discharges, In-home Faintings, 911 calls, Surgical Wound Complications, Hospital Re-admissions, Downtown Doctor(s) appointments, Cancer Spreading False Alarms, Spinal Infections, In-Home Antibiotic IV Drip Treatments and CNN’s Happy New Year “2018” TV Bash. My year “2017” was nothing but a blur … And … I’m soooooooooo glad to have those days in my review mirror now.
It’s March “2018” and I am still not working. In fact, I am still stuck in the wheelchair whenever I have to leave the home or hospital. The detrimental effects of cancer on my health combined with the uncertainty of my return to work date has put me in a very difficult and stressful situation. In a blink of an eye my everyday life, as I knew it, was taken away from me. Although I may look grinfully the same on the outside, my current battle with cancer has forever changed me on the inside. After being surrounded by sickness and death while “living” in the Scarborough General Hospital, then the Princess Margaret Hospital, then the Scarborough Grace Hospital, then the Toronto General Hospital, and then lastly the Toronto Western Hospital, I no longer take anything for granted … and … I now know that nobody is guaranteed a “Tomorrow”. I have also learned how extremely important it is to live in the “NOW” … and … To get rid of life’s many “distractions” in order to clearly chase down as many of your personal checkmarks as possible so that way when you do pass away you can “Die Empty” with no unfinished business taken with you to the grave.
Before my time is up on the this planet I would like to leave it better than when I entered it … It is my hope that the world is a better place because I was in it. I am totally Grateful to be given the gift of Life, I am totally Grateful to be given the gift of Time, I am totally Grateful for the Friendships and Experiences that have come my way, I am totally Grateful to still be Here, … and lastly, I am totally Grateful to be in a position to give back into the world that has given me so much. I would like to leave behind a place for those of you who have ever felt Inadequate, Insignificant, Isolated, Unseen, Unheard, Helpless, Lonely, Alone, Scared, and Unsure. Words that I got to know all too well, Words that have lived with me from the very beginning of my cancer journey. It is my hope to leave behind a place that is Informative, Entertainingly Fun, Non-Threatening, and most Importantly filled with Immediately Applicable Knowledge & Tools to help others make Well Informed Decisions when they eventually arrive at Life`s many Forks in the Road.
There is a constant “Drip” of negative information bombarding our brains and our senses EVERYDAY !!! … Everywhere we turn we are reminded of what`s wrong with us … and … what`s wrong with our world. There is a plethora of media outlets, media appliances, and media magazines promoting solutions to our so called problems. These media outlets are “Indirectly” telling us how “Unfit” we are, how “Unglamorous” we are, how “Unwealthy” we are, how “Unattractive” we are, how “Unprepared” we are, and how “Unhappy” we are by urgently providing the masses with these “needed” solutions to address and eliminate life`s imperfections. If you don`t believe me go and visit any store and read the headlines of every magazine cover and newspaper. If you don’t believe me pay closer attention to the commercials that appear while you are watching television. If you don’t believe me pay closer attention to the Advertisements that you passively listen to on your radio. Wouldn’t it be nice to find, hear, and see news that was good for a change ??? … Wouldn’t it be great to find, hear, and see what`s right with the world ??? … Wouldn`t it be amazing to find, hear, and see what`s right with us for a change ??? … I realize that gloom and doom sells, all I ask is that you please be aware of what`s dripping into yours and your children’s ears, brain, and sub-conscious.
It is my vision to provide a place where people can come to when they feel that their glass is half full, or when they feel that they are at the end of their rope, or whenever they feel that they are just running on empty. A place where they can find fellowship, a place that enhances their positive self awareness, a place that uplifts and esteems, and a place that gives them a feeling of community. Once again, for those of you who have ever felt Inadequate, Insignificant, Isolated, Unseen, Unheard, Helpless, Lonely, Alone, Scared, and Unsure I give you a place where people can be Injected with Hope, Positivity, and Guidance. Thank you to Everyone for your heartfelt texts, visits, phone calls, and E`mails. I hang on to those words and those moments in time ever so tightly whenever I find myself mentally slipping. Thank you to Everyone for being in my corner and cheering me on, I promise all of you that I will continue fighting everyday to battle this cancer… Thank you to Everyone for being my friend … and … Most importantly, Thank you all for being a part of my Life`s Story, I have wonderful memories of “time” spent with each and every one of you !!!
